Active Academics® lessons were piloted with classroom teachers in Spring 2005. Here are some of the comments teachers made:
- “I feel that it is so imperative to incorporate physical activity in today’s classroom. The rate of U.S. students that are overweight is staggering. I’m always FOR more physical activity.”
- “Very good idea. Helps children remember what they have learned. They need a little more time to release a little energy.”
- “The children usually do better with short (10 to 15 min) lesson times. Being able to do both the lesson and the activity at the same time could let us extend the time frame a little.”
- “Excellent idea-I am concerned about not having a morning recess time and an afternoon recess. I truly feel young children need the exercise and physical activity routinely during the day and this makes seat work time easier for them.”
- “Time appropriate, age appropriate, a lot of academic knowledge incorporated within the physical activity.”
- “I think we all need reminders to take a few minutes to have students up, active, break in routine. The idea of having a manual for activities across the curriculum would be terrific.”
